Love letter to our future team

Dear future Kita teammate,

Here’s a letter for you, to explain who we are and why we need you to join us.

Why we want you to come work for us here at Kita

Our “why”

I always like to start with the “why”. After all, there is no point in building a new company unless there is a driving purpose for its existence.

Kita’s “why” is simple - we exist to fight the climate crisis.

The IPCC climate change reports are both clear and terrifying (see the latest here). We urgently need concerted climate action to enable a liveable and sustainable future for all.

Kita’s founders are fully aligned – FIGHTING THE CLIMATE CRISIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT IMPACT WE CAN HAVE IN OUR CAREERS, AND WE FOUNDED KITA TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Our vision

You might ask – if you want to help, why start an insurance company?

The answer is because insurance is essential in the fight against climate change. Via assessing, pricing and managing the risks of change, insurance can help accelerate the changes society needs. This can’t happen soon enough.

Carbon removal is a key example. To prevent the worst impacts of climate change, we must remove between 10Gt and 20Gt of CO2 from the atmosphere annually for the remainder of the 21st century. This is a scale-up task at unprecedented speed, and it requires de-risking and access to capital for carbon removal solutions (both nature-based and technological).

That is where insurance comes in, and it is why Kita’s focus is developing innovative new insurance products in the emerging carbon removal space.

This is not an easy task – after all, there is a reason why this insurance doesn’t already exist. The solutions are new, there is no historical data, and the long-lasting nature of the risk (carbon removal solutions must be permanent) are outside the normal bounds of insurance.

But start-ups exist to break industry challenges. We can move faster, pivot easier, and have the luxury of dedicated focus to find solutions. And that is exactly what Kita is doing, and why we are so confident we will succeed.

Our future

But we can’t succeed at scale without you. You are our future.

We know that you share our passion for fighting the climate crisis. We hope you believe insurance is a key part of the solution (if not, we’ll convince you!). You can come from a range of career paths and backgrounds, but you want to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment (with some pretty cool people, but we might have some bias there...).

We don’t know exactly the role you will play, but the options are exciting. Maybe...

  • Head of partnerships, with the goal of helping scale our ability to build relationships and embed our proposition across the rapidly developing carbon removal space.

  • An insurance focused role – maybe distribution or handling key underwriting or regulatory needs.

  • Carbon markets liaison, using your strong knowledge of the complex carbon markets to help drive how our products are structured and stay ahead of regulatory shifts.

  • A data scientist or analyst, using your analytical skills (across a range of areas, e.g. environmental or climate science, forestry, agriculture, remote sensing, etc.) to help build our risk models.

We are an early stage start-up, so no matter the role, the one thing you can be certain of is that it will shift as we grow. What won’t shift are our values, which we need you to share (find out more here).

So therefore the most important thing is you – your motivations for joining us, your skills and the passion you will bring to finding solutions to accelerate scaling of high integrity carbon removal solutions.

We can’t wait to meet you! Please get in touch if you want to have an introductory chat.
